About BCIV
Our Mission
The Brandi Crawford International Veterinarian Foundation (BCIV), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, was established by co-founders Livia and Rita Wieringa with a shared vision: to expand access to compassionate, high-quality veterinary care in regions where animal health services are severely limited.
What We Do
Through strategic partnerships, the provision of essential medical equipment, veterinary and registererd technician volunteers, and hands-on training for aspiring professionals, we strive to alleviate the shorgage of veterinary services and ensure every pet owner has access to comprehensive animal healthcare.
Our approach focuses on collaboration, education, and sustainable support, strengthening veterinary infrastructure and providing equipment, so communities can care for animals now and into the future.
Our Flagship Program: Belize
BCIV’s flagship and leading program is based in Ambergris Caye, Belize, where the need for accessible veterinary care and diargnosic equpment remains urgent. Limited resources and geographic challenges leave many animals without reliable medical attention.
To address this, BCIV works directly with local organizations, veterinarians, and community partners to expand access to care and support long-term solutions for animal health.
The Belize Veterinary Initiative (BCBV)
At the heart of our work in Belize is the Belize Veterinary Initiative (BCBV), a philanthropic veterinary initiative launched in memory of Brandi (also known as B) and her dog, Hammy (see photo and logo). BCBV delivers compassionate veterinary care while investing in education, training and partnerships that support lasting impact.
Our Founder
Livia Wieringa, DVM, is a dedicated and passionate veterinarian whose commitment to Belize began in 2009. Since her first visit, Livia has returned to Amergris Caye more than ten times to assess and support the island’s veterinary needs.
Working in close collaboration with The Saga Foundation Limited of San Pedro, Livia and BCIV continue to build trusted relationships that allow the foundation to serve animals and communities with care, respect, and integrity.
